A custom deck starts with how you intend to use it: a dining table outside the kitchen, room to grill, a shaded seating area or a better connection to the yard. We consider door height, furniture clearances, stair placement and the views you want to keep before defining the footprint.
Wood and composite decking offer different appearances and maintenance commitments. Compare the surface, railing, framing and finishing scope together so the initial price does not hide decisions you will need to make later.
Loose boards, worn finishes and damaged stairs do not all call for the same fix. Deck repair begins by looking at the visible framing, connections, railings and walking surface. Replacing boards may be a sensible option when the supporting structure remains suitable; a larger rebuild may be needed when deterioration extends underneath.

What affects the cost of a custom deck?
Size is only the starting point. Height, stairs, railings, material selection, demolition, site access and the condition of existing framing all influence the scope. A straightforward ground-level deck and an elevated deck with several landings need different work even when their surface areas are similar. Share approximate dimensions, photos and priorities so we can prepare a useful estimate instead of an unexplained square-foot price.
How do I choose between wood and composite decking?
Consider appearance, budget, sun exposure and how much routine upkeep you want to handle. Ask about surface temperature, cleaning, finishing and the requirements of the specific decking product. Neither choice removes the need to look after the structure beneath it. We explain material tradeoffs in the context of your property and intended use.
Can you restore my existing deck instead of replacing it?
Possibly. The answer depends on the condition of the structure, not simply the appearance of the top boards. Share photographs of damaged areas, stairs, railings and any accessible underside. A site review helps separate surface work from structural repairs; concealed damage may only become clear once work starts. We identify assumptions and discuss scope changes rather than covering problems with a fresh finish.
What should we discuss for a coastal deck or dock?
Tell us about sun and weather exposure, drainage, water access and any difficult routes for bringing in materials. We also discuss the relationship between stairs, railings and existing structures. Permit, engineering and association approval responsibilities are addressed in the proposal according to the project. Those details should be clarified before a start date is agreed.
